Where am I?

This site is managed by the Montana Department of Environmental Quality's Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) program and is separate from DEQ's webpages. The pages on this site contain information about current TMDL projects in the state of Montana. This site does not contain information about all current TMDL projects, however. If you do not find information about a specific project, please go to DEQ's TMDLs Under Development webpage for information about all current projects. Information about TMDL implementation projects can be found on DEQ's Nonpoint Source Program webpage.

This site is what is called a "wiki." DEQ maintains this site the same as a webpage, which means we create individual pages for different TMDL projects to provide the public with information about those projects. We also use this site to distribute documents to stakeholders for their review.

What is a Wiki?

A wiki is a collaborative website whose content can be edited by anyone who has access to it. Wikipedia is a well known wiki. Sites like MySpace and Facebook are similar in function, using what is referred to as social software that allows users to interact and share data. The DEQ TMDL Development Projects wiki is not set-up in this manner, in that users may not edit the site's content or post their own information. DEQ uses this site only to distribute TMDL-related information to the public and stakeholders.

How to Navigate This Site

Always Use the Sidebar

The sidebar on the right provides quick links to the home pages of all projects with information on this site.

Most project pages also have links at the top of their pages that link to the project's other pages.

Tabs in the Top Left Corner

The "Wiki" and "Pages & Files" tabs are visible on every page.

The "Wiki" tab will take you to the home page of this site, called TMDL Home, as shown in the image above. You can also get to the home page by clicking on this site's name above the two tabs: "Montana TMDL Development Projects Wiki."

The "Pages & Files" tab takes you to a repository of all pages and documents on this site. It is somewhat confusing and we do not recommend it for navigational purposes.  Use the sidebar to navigate through the pages instead. If you do enter the Pages & Files, the sidebar will not be visible, but you can get back to the wiki home page by either clicking on the "Wiki" tab or the wiki name at the top of the page (see image below).

Users with accounts can use this link to log in. Only DEQ staff need accounts.

  • Help

Clicking on this link will take you to the help pages of PBworks, the company that provides this wiki service (DEQ manages this site, but does not host it). These pages will contain some information that may be of help to you, but majority of the information will not apply to your use of this particular wiki/site (referred to as a "workspace" in the PBworks help pages).  If you are a member of other wikis, or workspaces, that are set up in an interactive format (users have the ability to add and delete site content, post comments, participate in online discussions, etc.) or if you are interested in starting your own wiki/workspace, then you will find useful information through the Help link.

You should find the answer to most of your questions on this page. If not, please contact Christina Staten (406.444.2836) or Pam Arroues (406.444.6763), DEQ Wiki Administrators.

  • Search this workspace

You can search for specific pages or documents using this feature, however you will probably find that using the sidebar is more efficient and user friendly.

Additional Navigational Features for Users with Accounts

Note that DEQ does not require you to have an account to view the pages on this site.

If you have an account, when you are logged in, you will see additional header information at the top of the page, as shown in the image below. The image below shows the user that they are logged in to a PBworks wiki/workspace and that they are within the Montana TMDL Development Projects Wiki. Remember, wiki and workspace mean the same thing.

Accounts are created with PBworks and not Montana DEQ. Clicking on "My PBworks" will take you to your account. The "Workspaces" arrow also has a dropdown feature showing your most recently visited workspaces/wikis.

Request Access to this Site

The "Reqest Access" feature is currently disabled for this site, and all pages are viewable to everyone.

If DEQ asks you to set up an account, please see the instructions on the How to Request Access and Set Up Your Account page.

Trouble Accessing Pages & Other Questions

DEQ administers this site but does not host the site, meaning that we do not have control over some problems that you may encounter. We apologize for any inconveniences this may cause.

If you did not find an answer to your question, please contact Christina Staten (406-444-2836) or Pamela Arroues (406-444-6763), DEQ Wiki Administrators.
