Completed TMDLs in the Bitterroot River Watershed

 

Development of the 2011 Bitterroot Temperature TMDLs & Tributaries Sediment TMDLs

-Project Completion Schedule-

 

The table below shows the progression of TMDL development for the temperature and tributary sediment TMDLs in the Bitterroot TMDL Planning Area. These TMDLs were approved in 2011 and are found in the "Bitterroot Temperature and Tributary Sediment Total Maximum Daily Loads and Framework Water Quality Plan" on DEQ's Final TMDL Documents webpage. For questions regarding the tributary sediment TMDLs, please contact Kristy Fortman, DEQ Sediment Project Manager at 406-444-7425. UPDATES:

4-26-10: TAG review of sediment-related reports pushed back 2 weeks until May 14th.

5-21-10: All schedule dates will be changed due to changes in staff workload and schedules. New dates to be posted soon.

7-16-10: New dates have not been posted, however, task statuses have been updated.

10-29-10: New dates posted

1-11-11: Task statuses and end dates updated

1-25-11: Schedule tasks edited & projected task completion dates updated.

Dates provided for WAG & TAG review of draft document.

Schedule will be updated again when the timeframe for public comment is determined.

2-11-11: Completion of draft document for stakeholder review was delayed. Revised dates posted.

3-25-11: Document is being prepared for public comment, however the public comment period has not been determined.

4-15-11: Delay in finalizing document for public comment. Estimate an additional week before document is released.

4-25-11: Public comment period began Friday, April 22, 2011 and ends Tuesday, May 24, 2011.

Copies are available at the Missoula, North Valley (Stevensville), Bitterroot (Hamilton), and Darby public libraries. A copy is also available at the State Library in Helena. Comments will be accepted until 5 p.m. May 24, 2011.  

A public informational meeting will be held Thursday, May 5, 2011 at the Bedford Building (City Hall) in Hamilton, MT.

There will be an open house from 3 to 5 p.m. DEQ staff will be available to engage in discussion and answer questions.

A presentation will be given at 6 p.m., followed by a question and answer session until 8 p.m.

Written comments will be accepted at the meeting.

Refreshments will be provided by the Bitter Root Water Forum.

5-27-11: The public comment period has closed. DEQ has begun review of public comments and is making final edits to the document in preparation for submittal to EPA.

6-27-11: Final edits to the document are expected to be complete in the next two to three weeks. The document will then be submitted to EPA for review.

8-1-11: The final document was submitted to EPA for approval today. Once approved, a notice will be posted on this page and you will be able to find the document on our Final TMDL Documents web page.

9-7-11: The document was approved by EPA on August 17, 2011! Once final formatting is completed, the final, approved document will be posted to DEQ's website (currently, completion of other TMDL documents is taking priority). A notice will be posted on this page when the document is available.

10-17-11: The final document has been posted to DEQ's Final TMDL Documents webpage.
