LOWER GALLATIN TMDL OUTREACH
This page was intended to provide the public and local stakeholders information regarding opportunities for involvemnt in the Lower Gallatin TMDL process. Meeting announcements, presentations, and project updates were posted here as they became available.
The Greater Gallatin Watershed Council (GGWC) acts as the local coordinator for outreach events, meetings, and additional information dissemination on water quality issues and TMDLs in the Lower Gallatin TMDL Planning Area (TPA). For more information about the GGWC, visit their website at http://www.greatergallatin.org/. A general descrition of the LGTPA public and stakeholder invovlement strategy is also given in Appendix A of the LGTPA Project Plan
ANNOUNCEMENTS AND UPDATES
May 10, 2013 |
The "Lower Gallatin Planning Area TMDLs and Framework Water Quality Improvement Plan" was approved by EPA on March 28, 2013. The final version of the document is now available on DEQ's Final TMDL Documents webpage under the Upper Missouri tab. Responses to comments can be found in Appendix H.
Note: The Lower Gallatin pages on this site will soon be moved to the "Completed Projects" page. A link is located in the sidebar to the right.

The document was submitted to EPA for approval on Monday, March 18. Advisory group members will be emailed and an announcement will be posted on this page once the document has been approved and is available on DEQ's website. |

Document Status: The document was not completed before the end of 2012, and edits are still being made. We currently do not have an estimated submittal date. A notice will be posted on this page when the document has been submitted to EPA for approval. |

Document status: Comments are still being addressed and edits are being made to the document. The document is anticipated to be submitted to EPA for approval before the end of the month.

The public comment period has closed. Comments are currently being reviewed and final edits are being made to the document in preparation for submittal to EPA for approval. Once approved, the final document will be posted to DEQ's Final TMDL Documents webpage. Responses to comments will be contained in Section 11 of the final document.
A copy of the presentation given during both public meetings is posted in the table below.

The public comment period has begun. The final, draft document can be found on DEQ's website at: http://deq.mt.gov/pubcom.mcpx. Comments may be submitted until 5 p.m. Saturday, October 6, 2012 either electronically at http://comment.cwaic.mt.gov/commentpage.aspx?cmntkey=i6rcqdauIa or via mail to: Montana Dept. of Environmental Quality, PPA/WQPB, PO Box 200901, Helena, MT 59620-0901.
Two public meetings will be held during the public comment period:
Wednesday, Sept 12 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Gallatin County Courthouse in Bozeman, and
Thursday, Sept. 27 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Manhattan Christian School in Manhattan (8000 Churchill Rd)
The same information will be presented at each meeting. For additonal information, see the Lower Gallatin Public Notice.

The stakeholder comment period has ended. Comments are being reviewed and a final, draft document is being prepared for the public comment period. Once determined, dates of the public comment period will be posted on this page, along with information on how to submit public comments. |

A draft version of the full Lower Gallatin TMDL document has been posted on the TMDL Document page for stakeholder review. Stakeholders must request access to this site in order to view the page. Stakeholders will receive an email from Sierra Harris with information on requesting access. You may also view the Frequently Asked Questions page for detailed instructions.
Deadline for submitting comments is Wednesday, August 8, 2012.

Recent TMDL Activity
- Nutrient waste load allocations have been drafted for the CIty of Bozeman Water Reclamation Facility, the City of Bozeman MS4 Stormwater system and the USFWS Bozeman Fish Tech Center
- TN and TP TMDLs have been drafted for all nutrient impaired waterbodies in the project area
- Sediment TMDLs have for all seiment impaired waterbodies in the project area
- Draft sections of the final document will be posted to this site as they become available

Technical TMDL development tasks in 2011 include evaluating attainment of water quality targets, estimating pollutant loads from different source categories, and establishing load and wasteload allocations to pollutant sources.
